"Target: Students & Experts”
The “MARINE BIOLOGY CAMP” is the international research camp of the Jonian Dolphin Conservation that involve the active participation of young student. The first camp has been realized in 2017 and it involves participants from all over the world. It will be a unique and great opportunity to live a training strictly in contact with the world of marine biology: work on a reseach vessel side by side of experts, volunteers and students of other countries, experience the activities directly in contact with cetaceans and marine biodiversity; participating in scientific activities of monitoring and conservation of these important species. The project aims to realize 3 research days by the sea, implementing several research methods, such us: visual surveys, photo-id, ethological observation, bio-acoustic and dna analisys. The team of the JDC, in collaboration with the experts of the Department of Biology of the University of Bari and the C.N.R. (National Council of Research) will realize trainings and data analisys workshop after the activities on board.

Dolphin & Whale watching activities to study and observe cetaceans and participating in the research activities of Jonian Dolphin Conservation
Practical-theoretical lessons of biology, ethology and methodologies to study and preserve cetaceans.

Fee & Costs
You will be hosted in Hotel Heraclea, in the beautiful and wild region of Basilicata, in the town of Policoro.
Dinner and breakfast will be served in the hotel and lunch (day 2-3-4) will be served and offered by our team on board of the boat.
Please alert us about any special dietary requirements (e.g. diabetes, lactose intolerance or other serious food allergies and needs) writing it in the application form.
The fee to cover the costs is connected to the period and the kind of activities that we are going to realize. Contact us by email to know more.
The cost includes: accomodation and food, workshop, boat excursions for whale and dolphin watching, research activities, local transports in Policoro.
The cost does not include: extra food and drinks, travel to and from Policoro
The whole amount of the fee needs to be payed by bank transfer and we are going to send you the bank details by email after your email of application.
Good (at least basic) knowledge of English (lessons and the working language will be in English)
Good motivation & desire to live strictly in contact with youngsters from all over the world & local volunteers
Previous experiences in this field
Predisposition to live in contact with nature, animals and to spend several hours on a boat
Attitude to live with other young people
It’s not mandatory to be student of biology or natural science. This project is open to everyone: passionate people for the Sea, for the animals; people ready to live an unforgettable adventure, a volunteering experience in South Italy.
