The Project

The Research Weekend is an innovative way to support the world of Cetaceans conservation and the activities of the JDC. You will not only experience the amazing sightings of the marine mammals in the Gulf of Taranto but you will participate side by side the experts of our team in each step of the research activities. Preparation of the equipments, observation and collecting data. A real experience to enjoy, even more, the conservation of these important animals, together with a joyfull relaxing weekend atmosphere.

Programme & Activities

 

  • DAY 1 (Friday):
    • Arrival to Policoro (after lunch);
    • Welcome and presentation by JDC Team;
    • Dinner
  • DAY 2 (Saturday):
    • Breakfast;
    • Dolphin & Whale watching activities to study and observe cetaceans and participating in the research activities of Jonian Dolphin Conservation (the excursion will start around 9 am and will end at 15-16 pm);
    • Brainstorming & dinner
  • DAY 3 (Sunday):
    • Dolphin & Whale watching activities;
    • Departure

Accomodation & food

Fee & Costs


You will be hosted in Hotel Heraclea, in the beautiful and wild region of Basilicata, in the town of Policoro.
Dinner (on Friday and Saturday) and breakfast (on Saturday and Sunday) will be served in the hotel and lunch (on Saturday and Sunday) will be served and offered by our team on board of the boat.
Please alert us about any special dietary requirements (e.g. diabetes, lactose intolerance or other serious food allergies and needs) writing it in the application form.

 

The fee to cover the costs is connected to the period and the kind of activities that we are going to realize. Contact us by email to know more.
The cost includes: accomodation and food, workshop, boat excursions for whale and dolphin watching, research activities, local transports in Policoro.
The cost does not include: extra food and drinks, travel to and from Policoro

Travel information

If you travel by airplane, the nearest airport is Bari but also Rome or Brindisi are good connections. If you travel by train, connections to Policoro are available on the website trenitalia.it.
If you need help for your travel arrangements contact us by e-mail and we are going to help you with all the travel info that you may need like shuttle bus info from Bari Airport to Policoro.
We are going to pick you up from the train or bus station when you arrive to Policoro.
